Scoliosis Took Me on a Journey—Now I’m Inviting You on Yours

It June, and it's Scoliosis Awareness Month.
This year I’ve taken “ awareness” as an opportunity for reflection..... on the health journey I have been on with my Scoliosis. Starting with this blog, titled " The More You Know". A title that embodies how educating myself on my journey for better spine health has empowered me to live my life to the fullest and it can do the same for you.
Let's dive in....
"Scoliosis is something I’ve lived with, and taking time to look back, it has quietly set the course of the life I have today. "
My Scoliosis journey started out as a quest to rid my body of chronic back pain, but became something much bigger. This diagnosis shaped my career, and how I felt in my body and my life. In trying to understand my body and feel better in it, I was introduced to innovative movement practices like Pilates (core stability with movement) , ELDOA (spine decompression and fascial health) and Feetness (working your posture from the ground up). These methods of exercise opened my mind to how in order to alleviate back pain you have to do beyond just spine work and work the relationships of the whole body. This strategy is what led to lasting results.
And has completely changed the way I approach my own health and those of my clients.

“Through this work, I’ve found a career I care deeply about."
This journey for better health didn’t just change how I felt in my body—it shaped my career and my community.
Through this work, I’ve unexpectedly found a career I care deeply about.
As my dad says " Find a job you are passionate about, you'll spend a lot of time there".
And I am lucky enough to have found it.
Learning about how to helping others understand their bodies and feel better in them has become my passion.
I’ve built meaningful connections with mentors, colleagues and clients, all of whom have been part of this ongoing learning process- nerding out at seminars together and enjoying the journey of exploring how to help others.
Hiking season has begun in NYC. Time to get out there and enjoy the beauty in our backyards.
"Scoliosis taught me something I carry with me every day:
Taking control of your health is empowering."
Going on a journey for better health, no matter the age or circumstance, will empower you to live your life to the fullest. "
Exploration is what brought me to this realization and a new mindset overall.
Taking the time to explore, learn about my body, how it works and how to get myself out of pain is what led to a new mindset about my health.
And unexpectedly this responsibility led to feeling empowered to take action, with daily specialized exercise and listening to my body and its needs. As I felt better, action turned into confidence and I began to venture into activities like hiking and traveling, which before were triggers of back pain.
Now these activities are part of a life I live fully.
"I woke up this morning and never thought I’d say this:
I am happy with the body I have and the journey it took me on.”
Being on the other side of chronic pain I can say I am lucky to have this journey at a young age and feel confident that I have the knowledge and resources to age in a healthy way and continue to live a life I love.
